SES London presentation: Why content strategy is crucial for social search
Rachel Hawkes
Yesterday, I went along to the third day of Search Engine Strategies (SES London) to present ‘Why content strategy is crucial to social search.’ My aim was to give a practical walk through what content strategy is, why as marketers (and brands) we need to understand how social media and content has a role to play in how our customers discover us through search. Reinforcing that, as the only panellist based in the UK, through case studies on this side of the pond.

A content strategy is crucial for social search
Rachel Hawkes
On Wednesday, I’ll be speaking at Search Engine Strategies in London about how a content strategy plays an important role in social search (and therefore the bigger search picture). Alongside two search marketers from America and Canada, my role on the panel will be very much geared along the communications route, focusing on how content strategy and social search fit into a wider marketing and PR plan.

Is Really Simple Syndication (RSS) still relevant?
Tim Gibbon
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) has been with us for a number of years and although it maybe a little grey around the sideburns, its role hasn’t changed. The X Factor: Social media and the live shows infographic – Week 9
Rachel Hawkes
With The X Factor final just a stones throw away, and last weeks analysis and infographic pointing to a Little Mix win, have things changed and where does it leave the other contestants in the social media stakes?

The X Factor: Social media and the live shows infographic – Week 8
Rachel Hawkes
So, who's going to win? Social media is pointing to a Little Mix victory. Although there may not be huge differences in the actual numbers of fans that each of the four remaining contestants have across both Facebook and Twitter, what separates them is how they are growing week by week. The rate of growth of each contestants social assets is reflected by their performance, what goes on during the week and so on. But viewing figures will obviously have an impact as well. If we look at the average number of fans that each contestant gained throughout the eight weeks, this follows a similar pattern to that of the viewing figures.

The X Factor: Social media and the live shows infographic – Week 7
Rachel Hawkes
There's fresh controversy around how the Marks & Spencers ad featuring the finalists is creating a bit of stir about favouritism, with new editing swapping Misha B’s spot for Amelia Lily. I have also raised twice over the last seven weeks over what could be perceived favouritism of 17 year old Irish contestant Janet Devlin, due to her prominence on the programme’s official YouTube channel and email shots.
