100 things about Rachel
Some things that you probably didn't want to know, but have been shared anyway
- Born and bred in Tasmania, Australia
- I moved to the UK in 2005
- Perfect cup of tea = Dilmah, two sugars (raw please) and loads of milk
- I learnt to knit when I was 6 years old
- I stayed in the ‘knitting’ closet until it became cool again, then I came out
- I make jewellery
- Once made one of my brothers drink puddle water
- I pretty much listen to the Ricky Gervais podcasts on repeat
- Karl Pilkington has a head like a f*cking orange. He’s also a genius and I love him to bits
- Guy Sebastian is my mosttttttt favourite musician and singer EVER
- My middle name is Atholea
- My middle name comes from my Nan, one of the most beautiful women to ever walk the earth
- I can freak people out by squeaking my eye
- My guilty reading pleasure – Jilly Cooper (particularly Riders and Polo)
- My sense of balance is shockingly bad
- My star sign is Pisces… I think I’m quite typical
- I grew up in a beach town, I could hear the waves crash when I went to sleep
- My most favourite sport ever is cricket
- I think cricket coverage on UK TV is appallingly bad
- I have four brothers and one sister, I’m the second eldest child
- My youngest sibling is 29 years younger than me
- I am a pretty rife sleep talker
- If I was on death row, my last meal would be a slow cooked lamb shank on a bed of mashed potato with roasted root vegetables (beetroot, carrot and parsnip please) with a caramelised onion jus
- I can’t hold a tune to save my life, though I love to sing
- I love logic puzzles
- No one can beat me at Mario. Fact.
- When I’m working, I prefer to listen to music that I know inside out
- I can and often do listen to the same ten songs on repeat all day
- Ray LaMontagne, Paoli Nutini, Tracy Chapman, Ben Harper and James Morrison rock my world
- I have no desire – ever – to gamble in a casino
- My biggest, and probably my only real phobia is moths
- My mum and brothers used to throw giant moths into my frizzy long hair
- I have tonnnnnes of freckles, though they have faded a lot
- I used to try and scrub my freckles away as a kid, now I quite like them
- Watching movies is one of my favourite things to do
- Spitting on the street has to be one of the most disgusting things EVER
- It’s one of the things I just can’t get used to in the UK
- I’ve always done volunteer work of some kind
- My parents were going to name me Jacob if I was a boy
- I have no desire to read or watch The Lord of the Rings
- I’ve read and watched Harry Potter about ten times
- One day I plan to be fluent in Spanish, well, at least be able to hold a conversation
- I ditched boys for horses during my teens
- I have at least 25 cousins
- My dad once cut my fringe off at the scalp because he couldn’t fit it in a pony tail
- I’m pretty bloody good swimmer
- I got my ears pierced when I was one year old
- I once cut mine and my brothers hair off, mixed it with margarine and spread it all over the house
- I went to an all girls high school, and loved it
- I’m really not a morning person
- I passed my driving test on the first go
- I broke down and cried during my driving test
- My blood type is B+ and I try to donate blood at least once a year
- Cooking a big dinner for friends is one of my favourite things to do
- I’d like to consider myself a better than average cook
- Fungus aka Mushroom… BLEURGH
- To this day I maintain someone broke into our house and stole my first cabbage patch doll Thomas when I was 5. That’s all they stole
- I’m not allergic to anything… except for seeing people spit on the street
- I love being around, in or on the water
- Annoyingly to others, I often talk along with the commercials
- I love pets, and the best dogs in the world are Border Collies
- I volunteered as a telephone crisis counselor for two years after doing a 26 week training course
- In an ideal world, I’d one day move to a farm and be fairly self sufficient
- Avocado, semi sun dried tomatoes, parma ham, crusty bread = awesome
- I sleep with about four pillows, and rarely under the covers
- I’m a happy little Vegemite, and I know all the words (you probably have to be Australian to know what I’m on about here)
- I don’t tan. I freckle
- I very rarely drink (alcohol)
- Much to some people’s bewilderment, I quite enjoy the long haul London to Sydney flight. I find it peaceful
- I think visiting new places and spending most of the time taking photos and checking off landmarks rather than really seeing and experiencing it is a crime
- One of my favourite websites for fun is Parent’s Shouldn’t Text
- My idea of crafty-porn is Pinterest
- I was realllllllly rooting for Google Wave. Sniff, Sniff
- I once did a beginners course in Reflexology
- I swam with wild dolphins at our local beach
- I think everyone in the world should watch The Cove
- I love love love shoes, jewellery, handbags and well… basically accessories
- Most especially I love interesting earings
- I can be overly emotional and sensitive… I cried during Babe
- From about the age of 8, I religiously practiced cord-cursive, and still write like that most of the time
- I have 20/20 vision
- Everyone looks smarter with glasses, so I won’t be that upset when I eventually need them
- Unfortunately, I really don’t have a knack for playing musical instruments
- I’d love to visit every country in the world
- Public speaking is my idea of hell
- It makes my blood boil when media and marketing people use the word ‘exploit’

- In my heart of hearts, I am a geek. A crafty geek
- I have yet to have a professional massage, and keep meaning to get around to it… I think when I do, I will have an unhealthy love for it

- In my spare time, I am a Trustee of a women’s health charity called Verity
- I love learning about and experiencing new cultures
- Reallllly love to be taught to cook new dishes from different countries
- I wish I could live in London and still be within even a reasonable flying distance of my family
- I used to cry myself to sleep regularly, begging my mum and dad to give me a sister. They eventually listened
- I now have the bestest, most beautiful sister in the whole world
- My gag reflux kicks in automatically whenever I hear or read people calling themselves social media gurus, evangelists, mavens etc.
- I make better smoothies than Tim Gibbon does
- I’ve always wanted to have really super duper curly hair
- I had a pet tree trunk called Snorky, I used to feed him sand and pine cones every day
