The X Factor hit by Bieber fever
As we’re entering the final week, we are keeping an even keener eye on all things X Factor and social media.
The semi-final results show was hit by Bieber fever yesterday as Canadian superstar performed. Whether he sang live or mimed is still the subject of tweetbate, but regardless of that he caused a bit of a social media stir. As was to be expected.
Although he didn’t trend ahead of his performance, just as host Dermot went to talk to the 17 year old, “Justin Bieber” became a trending topic in the UK and worldwide, where it stayed for some hours after. His flirting (during the performance) with judges Kelly Rowland and Tulisa Contostavlos also caused a bit of a Twitter furore, with “Kelly and Tulisa” trending just minutes later.
#JustinOnXfactor, which started being used last week, didn’t trend but not for lack of trying from eager “beliebers”, with the hash tag appearing in more than 200 tweets during the one hour show. In that one hour, his official Facebook Page gained 1,271 new Likes and @justinbieber on Twitter saw an increase of 2,343 new followers. Hash tag #bieber
also trended worldwide.
He wasn’t the only X Factor related Twitter trend last night however. Outside of the ‘Kelly and Tulisa’ stream, Kelly Rowland also became a trending topic (though not for nearly as long as Justin Beiber), as did her two songs, “Commander” and “Down for Whatever.” Destiny’s Child also got a bit of the trending topic love, helped along by former bandmates Michelle Williams being a guest on
The Xtra Factor and ITV programme
‘A Night With Beyonce’ following straight after the show.
For me, the trending topic of the night is thanks to seasoned judge Louis Walsh. After Kelly’s performance, Louis heaped praise on his fellow judge, comparing her to a young Tina Turner, which trended within minutes.
Some weeks ago, social media pointed us to who the final three might be which we have seen happen. Last week, we social media pointed towards a Little Mix victory. Can they take the crown? Doing some quick number crunching ahead of our regular Friday analysis and infographic, Little Mix gained the most fans over the weekend with 21,786 new followers. Unsurprisingly, Misha B had the least amount of new followers at 10,085 – however that is the first time she has had more than 10,000 fans since the bullying allegations in Week 4.
So, who do you think will be the 2011 X Factor winner and who is this years social media winner?
