With 1.65 billion funding to date under its belt: A visual history of Twitter

Tim Gibbon, director Elemental By Tim Gibbon

What's not to like about a Twitter infographic?  Mashable has created a colourful and interesting 'A visual history of Twitter', infographic, telling us the story far from the world's favourite microblogging service.  It includes highlights from various world events and the impact Twitter has experienced as a result of them, or even creating them.

The Twitter infographic chronicles its rise since inception in the summer of 2006, up until August 2011 and gives us some insight to how, although not the first, it has become the microblogging market leader.

Nicelely balanced with fun statistics, the Twitter business model, Twitter facts, the most followed, most influential content creators and how the microblogging service strives to turn a profit.  With $1.65 billion of funding invested so far and 1 billion Tweets posted every five days, amassing 200 million registered users, it's a force to be reckoned with.

But, what does the future hold, especially as the founders look to other pursuits?
