blinkx to power video search for WebFetchPro and other InfoSpace Europe metasearch brands
InfoSpace uses blinkx’s technology to offer users the most comprehensive video search results on the Web
15 November, 2006, London, UK ---- InfoSpace Europe (http://www.infospacesearch.co.uk), a Web search products and services company, today announced a partnership with blinkx (http://www.blinkx.com), the smartest and largest video search engine on the web, to enhance video search capabilities on InfoSpace Europe's family of metasearch brands.
InfoSpace Europe metasearch combines relevancy weightings of multiple search engines to return the best results the Web has to offer, providing users with a more powerful and comprehensive way to search. By partnering with blinkx, InfoSpace Europe will offer its users the same breadth and relevancy of video search results, as it does of text-based search results. blinkx video content is now available on InfoSpace Europe's WebFetchPro site (http://www.webfetchpro.co.uk) and will be added to InfoSpace Europe's other branded search sites including Webfetch (http://www.webfetch.com), Dogpile (http://www.dogpile.co.uk) and WebCrawler (http://www.webcrawler.de) later in the year.
Under the terms of the agreement, InfoSpace Europe will pay blinkx for the video feed results based on volume of searches.
“blinkx is a terrific addition to our search portfolio,” explains Dominic Trigg, vice president at InfoSpace Europe. “They offer a unique concept in video search technology which will help us to challenge the thinking of what constitutes a relevant video result on European sites. WebFetchPro aims to maximise the relevance and user experience of our meta-search engine with results provided by our unique relationships with each of the major search engines. The video search arena is a competitive ‘hot potato’ right now and I am pleased we have been able to take this pro-active step forward with blinkx.”
“We are thrilled to be powering InfoSpace Europe’s video search, giving users the ability to find and view all forms of online video,” said Federico Grosso, vice president of business development, blinkx. “As more people turn online for a TV like experience, we give users the tools they need to most effectively find and view video on the Web.”
As the pioneer in video search technology, blinkx has built a reputation as the smartest way to search new forms of online content such as video. With more than 100 partners and six million hours of indexed video and audio content, including favourite TV moments, news clips, short documentaries, music videos, video blogs and more, blinkx uses advanced speech recognition technology to deliver results that are more accurate and reliable than standard metadata-based keyword searches. blinkx is advancing the way in which users can benefit from online video by giving them more control and more visual functionality, creating a more TV like experience.
