New Media Maze to Promote First Ever UK DVD Release of An American Werewolf in London

New Media Maze Appointed by Universal Pictures UK to Promote American Werewolf in London Online on its 21st Anniversary

New Media Maze the Interactive Marketing Consultancy, has been appointed by Universal Pictures Video UK to market An American Werewolf in London. The eagerly anticipated movie, is the first ever UK DVD release of the horror classic, on its 21st Anniversary of the original cinema release.

The campaign is to target DVD buyers who will remember the title from its original release, for its 21st anniversary release. It’s the first time the film has been released on DVD and will be out to own from the 04 March 2002, celebrating a classic - probably the most well-know werewolf movie of all time which spans two decades.

Directed by John Landis in 1981, the horror classic starring David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dunne, John Irvine and even includes a brief appearance from Rik Mayall. The film focuses upon two American tourists that visit the Yorkshire moors and are attacked by a werewolf – killing one and turning the other into a werewolf. The film was renowned at the time for its amazing special effects, but suprisingly blends black humour and shocking scenes to create one of the most memorable horror movies of all time.

The campaign runs for three weeks commencing on 14th February 2002 and includes online advertising, third party deals with leading websites and portals, online PR, email and viral marketing with online promotion and competitions.

The promotions are to be integrated into offline activity to create awareness that An American Werewolf in London 21st has reached its anniversary of its first release to cinema, to horror fans and those that watched the timeless classic when it was first released. It will also appeal to audiences that didn’t experience the release the first time around over 21 years ago.

Dave Smith, Business Development Director at New Media Maze says, “We are very excited about release of An American Werewolf in London because is has such a legendary and cult status. That fact that is has never been released on DVD in the UK until now, means it’s quite a special release for Universal Pictures Video. We have blended appropriate mediums and for this off and online integrated campaign, to raise awareness and drive e-commerce sales of this release.”

Sue Patten, Senior Product Manager at Universal Picture Video comments, “It’s the first time An American Werewolf in London is available on DVD as well as it already being available on Video, so it’s a particularly exciting release for Universal Picture Video. With the added features of DVD, fans can enjoy interviews from the director and cast with the usual additional benefits that the DVD format offers.”

Patten adds, “The campaign that New Media Maze has devised has embraced the nature of the film and we are pleased with the outcome. The creatives and promotions capture the spirit of the film, so fans of the 21 year-old horror classic won’t be disappointed. We are pretty sure that the campaign will create an interest like the original did, especially to those individuals that were not familiar with the release the first time around.”
