Social Media Portal (SMP) maps global social networks

Social networks and global relationships mapped with new site called the Social Media Portal


26 September 2007, London, UK ---- A new social media resource called the Social Media Portal (SMP) (http://www.socialmediaportal.com) is to be released at ad:tech London , 26-27 September 2007.

SMP maps networks and the landscapes they create from around the globe, and is the creation of UK-based media consultancy Elemental (http://www.elementalcomms.co.uk), specialists in integrating traditional and digital marketing, media and PR.

Designed and developed by Australian-based web agency C2 (http://www.c2.net.au ), SMP encompasses the role of social networks, user generated content (UGC), blogs, podcasts, search engines and other technology like instant messenger. SMP's Landscape will continue to grow on a daily basis, as social media companies and blog owners are encouraged to add their sites.

Tim Gibbon, director at Elemental comments, "SMP demonstrates how social networks aren't the new kid on the block, and in fact has been a part of our culture a lot longer than is thought. It highlights the relationships between organisations, business and people within the Landscape and how they intertwine and connect with each other using social media."

SMP launches with a competition, which participants can enter at http://www.socialmediaportal.com/adtech. The SMP Competition will remain open for entrants from around the world until 27 October 2007.

"We created SMP to suit many needs. Marketers and brand owners would like to know where online audiences are and how to engage with them on their own level - and social media sites may be interested in bringing in elements like advertising and promotions that suit their users better. Every day it seems that an infinite number of new hot spots are created as audiences move on to the next and best thing, and this is just one element to the new age of online culture that SMP unearths.

For users, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a site that appeals to their own individual style and/or interests and possibly will result in more vertical sites being created.
